Movie, Dinner, Dinner, Movie
Friday night we had a quick bite of Japanese food at Kamakura in
downtown Los Gatos before running down the street to the quaint, 50's era
Strand theater to see
Saving Face
, a Chinese comedy-drama-romance by director Alice Wu. I enjoyed the
movie, not because of the Chinese lesbian sex scenes as you would
think, but because it was different from typical Chinese films. The
role-reversals and cultural taboos explored was what made the movie
interesting. Go see it, and if you feel comfortable viewing sexually
explicit scenes with your parents, take them too!
Saturday, we picked up with
Kaf
and his wife on the way to North Beach for dinner. I'll just say that
parking in North Beach is comparable to the act of trying to restrain
an angry greased pig with your bare hands.. Adding to the mayhem was
some kind of event at the park in front of the Saints Peter and Paul
Cathedral. All I could see was a few hundred people sitting in lawn
chairs facing
a huge screen, and a really long line at the quarter bathroom booth.
Movie night perhaps? We were all starving, so we ducked into the first
Italian joint we could find without a wait. I forget the name, but it
was small, cozy, and every inch of the walls and ceiling were covered
with brightly colored arts and crafts. I just remember a lot of
hand-painted pots and pans hanging over my head and that Kaf mentioned
how it looked like a dusting nightmare.
Sunday, I biked from the trail starting behind my backyard to
a local lake. There were lots of people
walking their dogs, fishing, sun tanning and watching their kids on the
playground. Feels like summer is finally here. I stopped by to help my Aunt and
Uncle setup their new karaoke system, tested it out by singing a
Chinese duet song with my aunt, and went to Rock Bottom brewery for
dinner. Feeling restless after dinner, Z and I caught a 9:15 showing of
Madagascar. Dreamworks is no Pixar, and Chris Rock
is much more entertaining when you can actually see him visually as he delivers
his lines. This should've gone straight to home video. So there you have it, a weekend of decadence!

There's an Italian restaurant in Noho that is both restaurant and antique shop. They have all this cool stuff on the walls and pretty much everything you see you can buy. Interesting but strange at the same time. I totally hear you about the squirrels. My parents had a squirrel problem. They managed to get into the attic and you could hear them scurrying around. Then they managed to open up a hole in the ceiling and get into the house.
Yeah things have been kind of iky in the realm of boys, but it's all good. I think I've resolved the last issue I have....on to other things. I also think it's because I've had a week off between jobs and too much time on Susan's hands lead to too much thinking and obsessing...I need to start my new job quick!
How are you doing? HOw are the wedding plans? Yes! Steinbeck is SO SO SO AWSOME!
